Three things we learned from the LA Galaxy’s 1-0 loss to Vancouver Whitecaps FC presented by SNHU

CARSON, Calif. – LA Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano provides his Three Things We Learned from the Galaxy’s 1-0 defeat to Vancouver Whitecaps FC presented by SNHU.

LA GALAXY’S LOSING STREAK CONTINUES

The LA Galaxy’s slump continued on Wednesday evening.

Los Angeles dropped a 1-0 defeat to Vancouver on Wednesday at StubHub Center in their fourth consecutive loss in MLS regular season play and their fifth in all competitions. Curt Onalfo’s squad fell to a disappointing 1-6-3 at StubHub Center this season.

The Galaxy showed signs of life at times during Wednesday’s defeat, forcing Vancouver goalkeeper David Ousted to make several key saves, but the team’s flat second-half performance will worry Onalfo.

THE ASHLEY COLE MIDFIELD EXPERIMENT

Ashley Cole found himself in a new position as Curt Onalfo experimented with his lineup to try and kick start his midfield on Wednesday.

Hoping to put his best XI on the field, Onalfo inserted the veteran outside back in a defensive midfield role alongside Joao Pedro. Cole adapted well to his new position providing a two-way presence in the center of the park while completing more than 90 percent of his passes and making seven recoveries and setting up several dangerous attacks.

The health of Jermaine Jones will ultimately determine Cole’s short-term future in the defensive midfield, but the veteran showed well when called upon Wednesday.

B-ROWE BACK

Brian Rowe is back to his old self

Despite the 1-0 defeat to Vancouver, Rowe was back to his best on Wednesday. The ‘keeper made five saves on the evening including a jaw-dropping diving stop on Cristian Techera.

Although the Galaxy could not get the victory, Rowe’s improved play is a positive sign as the club looks to get back to winning ways.
