Three things we learned from the LA Galaxy’s 2-0 loss to Columbus Crew SC presented by SNHU

COLOMBUS, Ohio – LA Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano provides his Three Things We Learned from the Galaxy’s 2-0 defeat to Columbus Crew SC presented by SNHU.

VIDEO REVIEW LEADS TO A BIZARRE FIRST HALF

Sigi Schmid has long been a proponent of Video Review, but the LA Galaxy head coach might be rethinking that position after the new system played a role in three key decisions that went against his side in the first half.

The Galaxy found themselves on the wrong end of the three decisions as Schmid’s team saw Ashley Cole sent off, a penalty kick called on Jonathan dos Santos, and then a goal disallowed by the Video Assistant Referee. Each decision seemed to have more impact than the last as Stoica’s decisions kept Los Angeles off the board and without their captain.

LA have now had four Video Review decisions go against them this season since the system was introduced earlier this month.

KEMPIN PUTS IN SUPER PERFORMANCE

The LA Galaxy might have a goalkeeping battle on their hands heading into the final stretch of the season.

Jon Kempin was given his second league start of the season with Schmid opting to leave incumbent netminder Brian Rowe home in Los Angeles due to a coaches’ decision. Kempin shined in the match, stopping a pair of penalties –including a clutch stop of Ola Kamara – to go with his five saves in the match.

Kempin made MLS history for the wrong reasons, however, on Wednesday as he became the first goalkeeper to make two penalty kick saves in a game and lose.

LA GALAXY’S ATTACK CONTINUES TO SPUTTER

Sigi Schmid said it best after the LA Galaxy’s latest defeat, “if we didn’t have bad luck, we’d have no luck.”

Missing Giovani dos Santos and Jermaine Jones, the Galaxy’s attack was toothless against Columbus as the team failed to register a single shot on goal in the 2-0 loss. At times, the Galaxy had opportunities through Gyasi Zardes and Bradford Jamieson IV, but once again, Los Angeles could not find a goal.

With a playoff spot starting to fade further from view, Los Angeles face a do-or-die match on Sunday against the San Jose Earthquakes. If the attack does step up then, the Galaxy’s season could be finished.
