Sigi Schmid evaluates the LA Galaxy's performance in 2-0 defeat to Vancouver Whitecaps FC: "We have to stop conceding goals"

CARSON, Calif. – Sigi Schmid gave the LA Galaxy a mixed review following Wednesday’s 2-0 defeat to Vancouver Whitecaps FC in a closed-door scrimmage.

Anthony Bardell and Kei Kamara scored for the visitors who dealt the Galaxy their third loss of the postseason. The two sides will face off again on Saturday at the StubHub Center main stadium.

Schmid opted for a reserve-laden lineup for the first 60 minutes, before bringing the lion share of his starting group for the last 30 of the clash. Despite falling to 2-3-0 in the preseason, Schmid saw some decisive moments from his team.

“I’m not displeased. I thought our soccer was good at times today. I think that obviously, we should have had some goals,” Schmid said. “I thought our pressure was good at times, but we struggled to get out of the back. But we had two lapses. We have to eliminate those lapses.”

With just one game remaining in the preseason before the home opener, Schmid says that his squad must tighten up defensively with the season fast approaching.

"We have to stop conceding goals. We’ve allowed six goals in the last two games, and that’s an area that we have to improve," Schmid said. "Today, we didn’t play Ashley [Cole], we played Rolf [Feltscher] at right back instead of left back, so we’ve done different things in the back as well. We’ve played different center back pairings. We have to settle on that.

“Obviously as well, they are new players who are getting to know each other as well. Today, I heard more talking when Jorgen came on. I thought he was much and more physical, so obviously, there’s learning. We just can’t make those lapses though.”
