The FederaciĂłn Mexicana de FĂştbol (FMF), Soccer United Marketing (SUM) and the LA Galaxy announced today that the Mexican National Team 2018 U.S. Tour will host a World Cup Sendoff Celebration in the Los Angeles area this Memorial Day Weekend. The four-day event will feature fan and media activities, concluding with a Sendoff Game, hosted by the LA Galaxy, on Monday, May 28 at the historic Rose Bowl against the Top-20 ranked national team of Wales.

This first-of-its kind tour celebration, titled “Rumbo a LA Victoria – presented by Allstate,” will be devoted to the fans, capturing the excitement of what will be Mexico’s last game in the States before this summer’s 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

The sendoff weekend celebration will culminate on gameday outside the Rose Bowl with the AT&T Futbol Fiesta, a 120,000 sq. ft. interactive fan area featuring sponsor booths, food, music, and autograph sessions by Mexican soccer legends. 


Over the years, Mexico has played in several big matches at the iconic Rose Bowl, including their historic 2015 CONCACAF Cup 3-2 win over the United States to qualify for the 2017 FIFA Confederation’s Cup. Mexico last played in Pasadena in 2017, in a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Jamaica in the semifinals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup.


Wales, currently 20th in the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking, is managed by Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs and features global stars such as Real Madrid midfielder Gareth Bale and Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey. Mexico has played Wales on three occasions, winning two and tying one. The two nations last met on May 27, 2012 in East Rutherford, NJ - exactly six years and a day from their 2018 scheduled match - with Mexico winning 2-0 on a brace by Aldo De Nigris.


The “Rumbo a LA Victoria – presented by Allstate” announcement was made today at a news conference in Los Angeles, where the Mexican National Team also unveiled their new English-language social media initiatives. Starting today, the Mexican National Team will speak to its fans in English, with active engagement via new @miseleccionmxEN pages across Twitter and Facebook. With these accounts, the Mexican National Team will be able to reach its fans all across the globe, sharing new English content as the team prepares for this summer’s World Cup.
