David Bingham overcomes the elements and the Chicago Fire to give the LA Galaxy a shutout win

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. – David Bingham took on the Chicago Fire and the elements on Saturday afternoon and came out on top.

Bingham registered four saves as the Galaxy blanked the Fire 1-0 at a frigid Toyota Park for their second shutout of the 2018 campaign. It wasn't just the saves that kept the 28-year-old busy as Bingham was forced to punch out the ball four times during the contest -- including one impressive hit that cleared out a ball that was twisted by the Chicago wind.

According to the experienced goalkeeper, Saturday’s match in blustery Bridgeview was the most difficult of his career.

“Me and some of the guys we were joking as we are coming off the field in the first half, it was probably one of the hardest halves I've had to play as a professional dealing with the elements and the wind,” Bingham said. “The whole goal is to put the rebound in the right spot. It's going to happen. There's no way you're going to be able to come up clean on everything in that kind of weather."

Although the performance wasn’t always the prettiest, Bingham believes that the showing should do wonders for the team’s confidence.

"I think it's definitely a confidence booster when you don't have the best second half, and at the end of the game our grit and determination got us the three points, and we're excited to build on that,” he said. “I think you're never going to play your best; the season is too long. Knowing we can dig down and win the ugly battles, it's definitely a positive for us.  If we defend like that, we're going to be really hard to beat."
