Sigi Schmid says LA Galaxy must stop chasing the game: "It's a matter of getting on the scoreboard first"

FRISCO, Texas – The LA Galaxy’s defensive struggles continued on a sweltering afternoon in Texas.

The Galaxy fell 3-2 to FC Dallas to drop their fourth consecutive match and their fifth in six games. Three of those four defeats by an identical scoreline.

Following the match, Schmid told reporters that his team's defending must improve across the field to stop the skid.

"Disappointed because of the goals we gave up and even being down we had enough chances to equalize the game and tie the game up. We've got to defend better," Schmid said. "We can't give up the goals we're giving up. We're not defending well enough. Defending is not just defenders, but the whole team. We're giving up soft goals and we can't be giving up soft goals."

For a seventh match, the Galaxy conceded the first goal and were forced to battle back from a deficit, only to fall short. Los Angeles showed character as they clawed their way back on the strength of goals from Ola Kamara and Ema Boateng but were unable to find the equalizer despite up a man for the final 15 minutes and several close calls at goal.

Los Angeles are now 1-6-0 when conceding first, leading Schmid to declare that his team must learn to bag the first goal.

"Four goals in the last two games, two goals in each game, you got to come out with something," Schmid said. "You can't be giving up six goals and we constantly put ourselves behind so we're constantly chasing a lead. The last time we were ahead was in Chicago and we won the game. It's a matter of getting on the score board first."
