LA Galaxy goalkeeper Clement Diop has been named to the Senegal National Team roster for their final two qualifying matches for 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™. Diop and Senegal will face South Africa in two-consecutive contests, first on Friday, Nov. 10 at Peter Mokaba Stadium in South Africa before a home contest on Tuesday, Nov. 14 at Stade Léopold Sédar Senghor in Senegal.
With eight points, Senegal currently sits in first place in Africa’s Group D ahead of Burkina Faso (six points), Cape Verde Islands (six points) and South Africa (four points). Senegal and South Africa will play twice while Burkina Faso and Cape Verde Islands have one game remaining during the group stage. If Senegal remain atop Group D, they would qualify for 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™.
After earning his first-ever international call-up in late May 2017, Diop made his international debut in the team’s scoreless draw against Uganda on June 5, playing 45 minutes in the friendly.
Diop, 24, originally joined LA Galaxy II in 2015 before signing an MLS contract with LA Galaxy at the end of the 2015 season. During his time with the club, Diop has been a standout goalkeeper in the USL in addition to making 17 starts for the LA Galaxy, including 15 this season, while making 65 saves in MLS play.
