Three things we learned from the LA Galaxy’s 2-1 loss to FC Dallas

CARSON, Calif. – LA Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano provides his Three Things We Learned from the Galaxy’s 2-1 loss to FC Dallas.

GALAXY STILL WORKING OUT THE KINKS AFTER OPENING UP THE SEASON WITH A LOSS

The LA Galaxy showed in game one of the Curt Onalfo era that they are still a work in progress.

First the good: the Galaxy controlled wide stretches of the match and held the possession advantage against a Dallas squad that was among the best teams in Major League Soccer a year ago. Los Angeles also created several dangerous attacking chances in the final 20 minutes and were unlucky not to pull level with Dallas. However, the performance still left some to be desired as the Galaxy conceded two admittedly sloppy goals to open their season opener.

As Onalfo often says, “it’s important to get better every day,” and the Galaxy will have to continue to improve steadily as they turn their attention to Portland next week.

JACK MCBEAN IMPRESSES UP TOP ALONGSIDE GIOVANI DOS SANTOS

Jack McBean showed that he’s a major contender to keep the forward spot vacated by the injured Gyasi Zardes with a solid performance against FC Dallas on Saturday.

McBean offered the Galaxy a reliable hold up option as the 22-year-old striker was able to repeatedly keep possession and create opportunities with his back to goal. The Homegrown striker came close to setting up an opportunity midway through the first half when he set up a dangerous dos Santos run that nearly resulted in a scoring chance for the home side.

With Zardes likely a week or two away from returning to the starting lineup, McBean remains a reliable option for Onalfo up top.

EVALUATING THE RIGHT BACK POSITION

The LA Galaxy still have questions surrounding the right back position after opening the season with a 2-1 loss to FC Dallas.

Despite being targeted multiple times, Rafa Garcia put in a competent 71st minute shift against the Dallas attack, showing well against wingers Michael Barrios and Ronald Lamah. Once Garcia left the match, Onalfo tasked Sebastian Lletget with that position and in his brief cameo, the attacking midfielder was reliable in Garcia’s stead.

Garcia will likely remain the first choice right back heading into next week's match, but the position remains an interesting subplot to the start of the Galaxy's season.
