Protect the Pitch 3.21

The LA Galaxy Foundation educates local youth about their sustainability efforts by hosting field trips to Dignity Health Sports Park. On Thursday, March 21, students from Grand View Boulevard Elementary School visited the stadium to learn about healthy eating habits and gardening.

On that rainy afternoon, the students first enjoyed a behind the scenes tour of the stadium, including the visitor locker room, press box and the main field where the LA Galaxy play their home matches. The tour concluded at the Galaxy Garden where students met Chris Hybl, Communications & Digital Specialist and member of the LA Galaxy Gardening Club. Hybl showed the students around the greenhouse and helped them plant cucumbers, onions, and cilantro to take home as a reminder of their time at Dignity Health Sports Park.

After planting, students were escorted up to American Express Stadium Club where a Garden School Foundation instructor guided them through a cooking class. The students chopped apples, squeezed limes, and poured olive oil into their bowls to make an apple fennel salad for lunch.

With a new recipe and LA Galaxy swag, Grand View Boulevard Elementary School students gathered for a group photo to conclude their field trip at the stadium.

The LA Galaxy Foundation’s Protect the Pitch Initiative continues to provide the opportunity for students to visit Dignity Health Sports Park and learn more about how the LA Galaxy positively impacts the environment.
