Starting XI presented by Modelo: Seattle Sounders FC vs. LA Galaxy | May 2, 2021 -

Lineup notes:

  • In net, Jonathan Bond makes his third start for the Galaxy since joining this offseason. In the two opening matches, the English keeper has 10 saves and has looked the part as the No. 1 keeper in LA. No known relation to James.
  • On the right, MLS veteran Oniel Fisher makes his second start and his third appearance with the club to start the season. Fisher, who has 68 previous appearances in MLS, faces his former squad on Sunday.
  • In the middle is Daniel Steres, who makes his third-straight start in central defense. Steres is one of the longest tenured Galaxy defenders with 124 previous appearances.
  • Making his LA Galaxy debut is Derrick Williams, the German-born Irish-American who joined from England (Blackburn Rovers) this offseason. Williams will look to make his presence as an anchor along this backline this season.
  • On the left is SoCal native who is familiar with facing Seattle: Jorge Villafana. Villafana has given the Galaxy reliable and steady play on the left this year and helped balance the backline.
  • Anchoring the center of the field is Jonathan dos Santos, who has shown his quality as one of the top midfielders in MLS in the club’s opening two matches.
  • In front of JDS in the midfield is youngster and Mexico National Team equal Efrain Alvarez, who makes his 11th MLS start in what will mark his 31st appearance. Alvarez gets his first extensive look from Vanney this year.
  • Alongside Alvarez in the middle is Victor Vazquez, who has been a revelation for the Galaxy to start the year after being brought in by Vanney. Vazquez has shown why he was one of the best midfielders in MLS during his time with Toronto.
  • Pushing up the field on the right is the versatile Julian Araujo, who will play out wide on the right in Seattle. Araujo has played along both midfield and defensive positions throughout his time in LA and will look to add to the attack Sunday.
  • Out wide on the left is Frenchman Samuel Grandsir, who joined this offseason from AS Monaco in Ligue 1. Grandsir makes his third-straight start.
  • Up top is Golden Boot leader Chicharito, who has been a different player to start this season. He once again will lead the attack on Sunday.

Game notes:

  • The Galaxy are 10-9-11 all-time against Sounders FC, including 4-5-5 in matches played at Lumen Field.
  • In the last meetup between both teams, the Galaxy earned a 1-1 draw at Dignity Health Sports Park on November 4, 2020 behind a goal from LA Galaxy forward Javier Hernandez.
  • LA are 1-0-0 on the road this season, with three goals scored and two conceded.
  • With three goals last weekend, Javier Hernandez has become just the second player in MLS history to score five goals in a team's opening two games of the season.

Take on Me Lyrics – A-Ha

Talking away

I don't know what I'm to say

I'll say it anyway

Today is another day to find you

Shying away

I'll be coming for your love. OK?

Take on me (take on me)

Take me on (take on me)

I'll be gone

In a day or two

So needless to say

Of odds and ends

But I'll be stumbling away

Slowly learning that life is OK.

Say after me,

"It's no better to be safe than sorry."

Take on me (take on me)

Take me on (take on me)

I'll be gone

In a day or two

Oh, things that you say. Yeah.

Is it life or just to play my worries away?

You're all the things I've got to remember

You're shying away

I'll be coming for you anyway

Take on me (take on me)

Take me on (take on me)

I'll be gone

In a day

Take on me (take on me)

Take me on (take on me)

I'll be gone

In a day

Take on me (take on me)

Take me on (take on me)
